The GymXP Guide

How XP, levels, weekly streaks, quests, boss raids, duels, loot, ranks and the AI coach all work — with the real numbers. New to the idea? Start with why a gamified workout app works.

⚡ XP

You earn XP for every set you log. The amount depends on the weight lifted, the reps completed, any potion you've drunk, whether the set is a personal record, and your streak and nutrition bonuses.

Formula
base = weight × reps × multiplier × 0.1
xp = base × prBonus × (1 + streakBonus + nutritionBonus)

PR bonus: a personal record on any set doubles the base XP (×2.0). The app compares every set to your all-time best for that exercise as you log it.

Multiplier: this is any potion you've drunk for the session — 1.0 with none, up to ×3 with a Legendary Potion (see Loot & Gear).

Bonuses add, not multiply: a +35% streak and a +10% nutrition streak give +45% together.

Minimum: every set earns at least 1 XP, even bodyweight work.

Example: 100 kg × 8 reps, no potion, no PR, no streak = 80 XP. The same set as a PR = 160 XP. The same set two months into a weekly streak (+50%) = 80 × 1.5 = 120 XP.

🎮 Levels & Titles

All the XP you earn feeds one overall level. Each level costs more than the last — the curve steepens the way strength gains do.

Your level is shown on your profile and updates live at the end of every workout.
Levels Title XP per level
1 – 4🟤 Rookie160 – 380 XP
5 – 9⚪ Iron Starter480 – 960 XP
10 – 14⚪ Iron Warrior1,100 – 1,780 XP
15 – 19🔵 Steel Athlete1,980 – 2,860 XP
20 – 24🟤 Bronze Champion3,100 – 4,180 XP
25 – 29⚪ Silver Elite4,480 – 5,760 XP
30 – 39🟡 Gold Master6,100 – 9,660 XP
40 – 49⬜ Platinum Legend10,100 – 14,560 XP
50+💎 Diamond Titan15,100+ XP

Exact cost of each level: 5 × level² + 50 × level + 100, rounded to the nearest 10. Level 1 costs 160 XP; level 50 costs 15,100.

🔥 Weekly Streaks

The streak is weekly, not daily. You set a weekly session target (default 3 a week — adjustable from 1 to 7 on your profile), and every week you hit that target adds one to your streak. Rest days never hurt you; the only thing that breaks the chain is a whole week below target.

The week you're in counts the moment you hit its target — hit your 3rd session on a Wednesday and the streak ticks up there and then. Weeks run Monday to Sunday.

Streak Tier Bonus
0 weeks No Bonus +0%
1 week Warming Up +10%
2 – 4 weeks Consistent +20%
5 – 8 weeks (a month-plus) Dedicated +35%
9 – 12 weeks (two months-plus) Iron Will +50%
13+ weeks (three months) Legendary +60%

The bonus applies to every set you log while the streak is alive.

🛡 Streak Shield: the reward roll after a workout has an 8% chance of dropping a Streak Shield when you don't already hold one (you hold at most one). If a week slips below target while you have a live streak, the shield is used automatically and your streak holds where it is. Shields can't be bought — only earned.
Tip: only days with a finished session count, and two sessions in one day count as one day — so spread your sessions across the week. A short light session still counts as a training day.

⚔️ Quests

The Log tab showing Today's Quest, a recovery grid and an ACCEPT QUEST button

A quest is one of your own workout templates, chosen for you. Today's Quest is the template that best covers the muscle group most overdue for training — worked out from what you've trained recently and how recovered each muscle is. If two templates tie, the one you did least recently wins.

The quest card shows an XP estimate based on your own history with those exercises, a streak chip when a streak bonus is live, and an item-drop chance chip. Everything else you've built sits under Other Quests.

Tap Accept Quest to start the session. Finish it and it's a Quest Complete: your XP is tallied, the reward roll fires, and if you're in a boss fight the whole session lands on the boss.

Side quests (nutrition)

Three small daily quests sit alongside your training and pay out on the day:

🥩 Hit your protein target +25 XP 🎯 Land in your calorie band +15 XP 💧 Drink your water target +10 XP

The two food quests only pay when the day looks real: at least 3 different foods logged, and no single food supplying more than 70% of your protein. Water is exempt. See Nutrition for how the bands work.

👹 Boss Raids

Pick a boss, invite a friend by link — or hunt it alone — and you have 7 days from acceptance to take it down. Every workout you finish is a strike. Damage is scored on the server from the sets you actually logged, so the only way to hit harder is to train.

How a fight works

Gear is never required. The HP sizing owns the difficulty; weapons and armour just get you there faster.
THE SYSTEM: "Damage is dealt by real training. Nothing else counts."

🏆 Duels

Duel screen showing two players' quest XP side by side with the time remaining

A duel is one against one. Send a friend an invite by link or code; once they accept, the clock runs for 7 × 24 hours and whoever banks the most quest XP in that window takes the crown.

🤝 Allies

You have an invite code under Friends. Share it — the Share Invite button sends it straight to WhatsApp or anywhere else — and a friend who's new to GymXP enters it in their first week. The moment they finish a workout of their own, they become your ally.

What allies unlock
1 ally🚩 Vanguard StandardWeapon
3 allies🎗️ Vanguard CloakArmour
5 allies🐲 Ember DrakeCompanion

None of these can drop or be bought — allies are the only way to get them. A friend can only credit one person, and two friends can't credit each other.

🎁 Loot & Gear

The reward roll

Every finished workout rolls once: a potion (30%), instant XP (29%), a roast from the System (29%), or a double-or-nothing gamble (12%). On top of that there's an 8% chance of a Streak Shield whenever you don't already hold one.

Potions live in your bag. Drink one before or during a session and it multiplies every set you log until you finish.

Gear drops

Gear drops from training as well as kills. A qualifying session (5 or more working sets, 20 minutes or longer) has roughly a 25% chance of a drop, rising to about 40% if you beat your previous best on every working set of an exercise (two sets or more — one lucky set doesn't count), with at most one drop a day. Every boss kill drops.

A dagger at its five tiers: Worn, Honed, Tempered, Runed and Mythic

Gear comes in five tiers — Worn → Honed → Tempered → Runed → Mythic. You keep one of each type; a duplicate fuses into the next tier up, and the art changes with it.

Cosmetics exist only to be shown off — Champion's Headband, Wraps of Resolve, Cape of Small Victories, Belt of the Unbroken, Crown of the Slain King, and a trophy for every companion you raise to Apex. They're earned, displayed on your profile and share cards, and never sold.

Ally gear: the Vanguard Standard and Vanguard Cloak can't drop at all. The only way to get them is to bring friends in.

🏅 Achievements

There are 64 badges across eight categories — training, consistency, strength, nutrition, explorer, raids, gear and companions — each with a potion or XP reward attached. Find them under Profile → Achievements. A few of them:

Showing Up 10 workouts Certified Gym Rat 100 workouts Unskippable 5-week streak Quarter Locked 12-week streak Moo-ver 600 kg in a session — a cow Absolute Unit 6,000 kg in a session Whale Done 150,000 kg lifetime On Fire 3 PRs in one session Dawn Patrol 10 sessions before 7am The Comeback back after 14 days away

🥚 Companions

The first time you beat a boss you recover its egg, and every boss has its own species — Slimeling, Ferroling, Specimen Runt, Plate Pup, Snapling, Nymph, Voidling and Starspawn. Name it, pick which one walks with you, and it appears on your quest board, beside the boss in a fight, and on your share cards.

Companions grow on Biomass, which only training produces: a session of 3 or more working sets lasting 10 minutes or longer is worth 50, a PR adds 25, and training on at least two days in the past week adds another 25 (up to 100 a day).

Pod 0 Hatchling 50 Juvenile 400 Evolved 1,200 Apex 2,600

Reaching Apex also earns that companion's trophy for your armoury. Companions are purely for show: they never change your XP, damage or drops.

💪 Muscle Ranks

Each of the 12 muscle groups — chest, back, shoulders, biceps, triceps, forearms, quads, hamstrings, glutes, core, calves and cardio — has its own XP total and rank, built from the exercises that target it. It shows exactly where you're strong and where you've been coasting.

Ranks are calculated over your last 90 days of training, so they reflect what you're doing now rather than what you did last year. Keep training a muscle and its rank holds; neglect it and it slides.

Rank Label XP (90 days)
E Unranked 0 XP
D Beginner 500 XP
C Novice 2,000 XP
B Trained 5,000 XP
A Advanced 12,000 XP
S Elite 25,000 XP
SS Legend 50,000 XP

Check your muscle ranks on the Profile screen — tap any muscle group to see its history.

🎯 Rep Ranges & Goals

Set your training goal in Settings and the app guides your rep targets to match. During a session, if your reps fall outside the range, the app suggests adjusting the weight.

💪
Build Muscle
6 – 12 reps
Proven hypertrophy range. Take sets close to failure — the challenge drives the change.
✨
Tone & Fitness
12 – 20 reps
Higher reps keep your heart rate up. Good form matters more than the weight.
🏋️
Get Stronger
3 – 6 reps
Heavy, low-rep work trains your nervous system to produce more force.
Custom rep range: in Settings → Current Focus → Custom, you can set your own min and max reps to override the goal-based suggestion entirely.

Your goal also shapes the nutrition targets from the TDEE calculator — each goal applies a different calorie and macro split.

📈 Smart Progression

Every exercise shows your previous session's sets at the top of the card. The app compares your average reps last time against your goal range and tells you what to do today.

How suggestions are generated
Last timeSuggestion
Average reps at the top of your rangeTry 2.5 kg more today — ready to progress 💪
Within two reps of the topAim for one more rep at the same weight
Below the bottom of your rangeToo heavy — try dropping 2.5 kg
Anywhere in betweenStay at the same weight and nail your form

If an exercise hasn't moved in three or more sessions, the card flags it: "No progress in 3+ sessions — time to push harder or switch variation." The AI coach sees the same signal and can suggest a deload when several exercises stall at once.

Double progression: first push your reps to the top of your goal range, then add weight. It's the most sustainable way to keep making progress over months and years.

🤖 AI Coach

The AI coach reads your actual logbook — recent workouts, personal records, streak, XP, muscle ranks and nutrition — so every answer is about your training, not generic advice. It also writes a short briefing before each session and can build a full week's programme on request.

Good things to ask:

Coach personalities

The same coach, six voices. Switch between them any time in Settings.

🤝 SupportiveWarm, direct and encouraging — your classic hype-coach.
🎭 The SystemSarcastic, deadpan game-master energy. Roasts your excuses (never you).
🎖️ The Drill SergeantClipped, barked orders and zero patience for excuses. Secretly proud of you.
🎙️ The CommentatorCalls your sets like a live sports broadcast. Every PR is a stadium moment.
😤 The RivalA training partner who is always one session ahead. Competitive, never cruel.
🧘 The Iron SageCalm, technical and unhurried. Fewer words, more signal.
You get 40 coach messages a day, and the AI programme builder uses the same allowance. Tell it whether you train at the gym, at home or a bit of both and it builds around that — home plans use your own bodyweight, no kit needed.

🥗 Nutrition & XP Bonuses

Nutrition tab with calorie and macro rings and the day's side quests

The Nutrition tab shows your day against your calorie and macro targets. Scan a barcode, search a food database that puts your own country's shops first, log a whole plate as one meal — or tap Describe or say it, type or speak something like "chicken, rice and broccoli for tea", and the meal comes back as separate foods and amounts for you to check before it's logged.

A day counts towards your nutrition streak when your calories land in the band — within 7% of target or 150 kcal, whichever is kinder — and protein reaches at least 95% of target. Carbs and fat inform the rings but never gate the streak. The day also needs to look real: 3 or more different foods, and no single food supplying more than 70% of your protein.

Nutrition streak XP multiplier
0 – 2 days× 1.0 (no bonus)
3 – 6 days× 1.05 (+5%)
7 – 13 days× 1.10 (+10%)
14 – 29 days× 1.15 (+15%)
30+ days× 1.20 (+20%)

The nutrition bonus adds to your workout streak bonus on every set. On top of that, the three daily side quests pay 25, 15 and 10 XP for protein, calories and water.

Targets: set your calorie and macro targets on Nutrition → Targets. The TDEE calculator uses your bodyweight, height, age, sex and activity level to give you a starting point based on your goal.
